Have you ever been curious about how artists develop their ideas into artworks? Even for a seasoned artist, the path from idea to completed work is not a simple journey, but a series of thoughts, concepts, challenges, and achievements. In many glass classes students will learn the techniques of working in glass. In a class called ArtQuest at the Weisser Studio in Kensington MD students explore the art of working in glass. Here a group of six emerging artists have embarked on a creative journey to develop and explore ideas based on personal experiences and perceptions. The class is lead by recognized local artists;sculptor Carien Quiroga and glass artist Nancy Weisser. They provide focus, and guide theclass as they work todevelop their individualconcepts and make the passage from idea to resolved artworks. The culmination of their efforts will be presented in a show titled EVOLVE which opens on January 23, 2010 at the Weisser Gallery and runs through February 14, 2010.
Over the past 12 months, this group has bonded while examining the creative process of how art happens. The social dynamic of this class has been essential to the individual growth of each artist and their work. Together they have maintained journals, developed and abandoned ideas and brought their concepts to fruition. The path has seldom been direct and the process has posed numerous technical obstacles. The artists’ group has delved beyond the confines of technique, pursuing the right materials and content to achieve the greatest self expression. The exhibition will not only showcase their finished pieces but will include journals, sketches and test pieces that will document their evolution.
Weisser is a non-traditional gallery, residing in a glass arts facility which includes an artists’ studio, a teaching studio and a glass arts retail space. The Gallery was created to inspire the art community in the DC metropolitan area and to share with the public the best of what glass artists in the region are creating.
